As in every assembly that is appreciated, the great and qualified assembly of the XI General Chapter of the Congregation of the Rogationists concludes also with a  souvenir photo. In this photo are all the Chapter participants together with the newly elected government. Let us thank the Lord for the beautiful and intense experience of fraternal life and of permanent formation lived during these days, and we also thank all the readers of our blog who followed us with attention and interest. We will see each other in 2016. At the end of the chapter works, the superior general proceeds with the expressions of thanksgiving: to the Lord above all, then to all the Chapter members with the hope that what was said and written would not only be for the library. Fr. Mezzari remembers the jubilee date of the first arrival of the Rogationist missionaries in Latin America. We want to be a Council at the service of everyone. Thanks to the Chapter secretary Fr. Fortunato Siciliano, to the various responsible persons of the different sectors of the Chapter. Special thanks to the outgoing General Government in the person of Fr. Giorgio Nalin and to Fr. Gaetano Ciranni and his person who has been a great example. Together with Fr. Cifuni and Fr. Nalin they constitute a triumvirate of former superiors general, a true and proper wealth for the Congregation. We have been accompanied by all the confreres. We can now return home with our hearts filled with joy. We have assumed this work which will be the sign of the Congregation. Lack and limitations will be overcome. The work of the Chapter was the fruit of the work of the whole Congregation: all the Confreres will be joyful. Now the work will be sensitive to make the situation better for the whole Congregation. The work of the new government is programmed thus: an initial meeting tomorrow, then August 5, Thursday, a visit to the General Curia for the logistic composition  of the new life of service.

The day opens with the Eucharistic concelebration presided by the new Superior General Fr. Angelo Ademir Mezzari and concelebrated by the former superiors general Fr. Gaetano Ciranni, Fr. Pietro Cifuni and Fr. Giorgio Nalin. The liturgical atmosphere is serene, filled with prayer and thanksgiving to the Lord for the gift of the new superior general and, today, of the gift of the Councilors General. At 9:15 A.M., everybody gathers as usual at the Chapter Hall to proceed to the election of the councilors general and the treasurer general. The procedures of the voting start and lead to the following results:

Councilor for the religious life and formation: Fr. Bruno Rampazzo

Councilor for Charity and Missions: Fr. Jessie Martirizar

mezzThe afternoon of Monday, August 2, was marked by an hour of Eucharistic adoration with which we wanted to ask from the Holy Spirit efficient light on the person to be elected. Immediately after, at the hall, the voting procedures of the Superior General started. On the third round the new superior general was elected. At 5:50 P.M., the President of the General Chapter, Fr. Francesco Bruno, proclaimed Fr. Angelo Ademir MEZZARI, 10th Superior General of the Rogationists. Fr. Angelo Mezzari was born in Criciuma SC (Brasil) on April 2, 1957, (Fr. Giorgio Nalin, ex-superior general, was born on April 2, 1951!), first of seven siblings and, at the age of eleven, he entered the Apostolic School of Criciuma SC where, under the guidance of the first Rogationist Missionaries in Brazil, he learned to love the Congregation. For eight years now, he has been the head of the Latin-American Province which he guided to the next Provincial Chapter that will be celebrated beginning on October 18, 2010. He was ordained priest on December 22, 1984. He did his licentiate in philosophy and theology with specialization in dogma, and licentiate in journalism. He speaks Portuguese, Spanish and Italian, and is one of the founders of the Institute of Pastoral Ministry of Vocations in Brazil, respected and appreciated by the Episcopal Conference of Brazil. Before accepting the election which was almost like a plebiscite, Fr. Angelo Mezzari requested for some minutes of personal reflection, during which he telephoned his mother from whom he received blessing. His father died last February. Returning to the hall, he broke his silence, and after the expressions of elation from the Chapter members he took oath and received the obedience of the confreres. The intense and moving day concluded at the chapel with the vespers during which the new superior general proclaimed the profession of faith.

Padre_GaetanoIt often happened in these days that some Chapter members celebrated the joyful  day of their priestly ordination, celebrating it in an atmosphere of great fraternity and common gratitude to the Lord for this great gift. Today, Fr. Gaetano Lo Russo of the Center-North Italian Province celebrated 23 years of priestly life. For this, he presided today the Eucharistic celebration, proposing a rich sequence of "Hannibalian" indications starting from the dimension of the faith, autonomy, initiative...The intention of the Holy Mass was for the election of the Superior General. Today the last week of the Chapter starts, and it is such an important day because the election of the Superior General of the Congregation is in the agenda.

31_luglio_007The difficult experience of the prophet Jeremiah and the tragic witnessing of John the Baptist have been the center of the homily that Fr. Salvatore Ciranni delivered at the Eucharistic celebration in English. As a whole there was the exhortation to be courageous prophets in the world of today bringing everywhere with the gift of the Gospel the Rogationist charism. At the hall, the reading and the second voting of the draft of the Commission on the general affairs of the Congregation resume. The document is proposed and the integrations were gradually welcomed, enriching the text and making it definitive. Those who were absent were Fr. Carlucci (for health problems) Fr. Amedeo Pascucci, for the death of the mother. In Manila (Philippines) there is the celebration of the funeral of Fr. Giuseppe Aveni attended by Fr. Bruno Rampazzo, superior of the Philippine Delegation, Fr. Jessie Martirizar e Fr. John Lucas. See photos.

30_luglio_003Fr. Jacinto Pizzetti of the Latin-American Province presided the Eucharistic celebration today. Referring to the liturgical readings of the day, he underlined our duty, after the example of the prophet Jeremiah, to proclaim the gospel and denounce evil. Further, he exhorted everyone to the comprehension of the importance of drafting and applying the various documents that are being prepared because, in the words of a Brazilian theologian, they require much attention in their preparation but they end up in the shelves of libraries. At the hall the presentation for the second reading of the drafts of the Commissions and the relative definitive voting resume. See photos.

The Rogationist Students of the Latin-American Province - from the various stages of Theology, Philosophy, Novitiate, Practical Training and Propedeutic -  are gathered in Bauru (SP), Brazil, for the annual meetings, since July 27, 2010. The event should be finished by Friday, July 30. They are sending their message to the Chapter Members:

"United in Bauru, Brazil for the XXIII Meetings of the Rogationist Formators, we would like to express our joy and communion with the Chapter members who, since the beginning of July, have been reflecting and deeply studying the course of our style of Religious Life in the XI General Chapter of our Congregation. The chosen theme on the Rule of Life is very important for us, young persons. For this, we hope that the Chapter Commissions, the reflections and decisions, inspired by the Holy Spirit, may be able to contribute for the renewal and reinvigoration of our way of Being and Living the Rogate. The theme of our XXIII Meeting of Formators is Juventude e Pós-modernidade na Perspectiva do Rogate (Youth and Post-modernism in the Perspective of the Rogate). We would like to contemplate and understand better the reality, the desires and the problems of the world of the young. Our intention is to know better in order to act better. In a similar way, we expect that the XI General Chapter may have a better and greater deepening of the Rule of Life to be able to live it more intensely. It is our yearning to daily live, propagate and pray the Rogate. With the signs of the times, before the challenges of our society, we need to renew the structures, becoming free of the old habits and responding to the present exigencies of evangelization. For us young formators, the General Chapter is a moment of hope, of believing that it is possible to think of a Rogationist Religious Life that is ever new and up-to-date. For this, may the fidelity  to the Rogate, the communion with the Church and the commitment with the most needy be our standard as disciples missionaries of Jesus Christ. Listening to the call of the Spirit, in fidelity to the Word of God and our precious gift, the Rogate, we must build a Rogationist Religious Life that is ever new and operative, for the glory of God and the good of the brothers and sisters who expect our witnessing as committed and faithful to the charism that we inherit from Saint Hannibal Mary. May he, our spiritual father and founder, together with the Virgin Mary, intercede for us."

The Chapter members are grateful for the message and they wish them an excellent meeting.

29_luglio_005The Eucharistic celebration starts the new day of the Chapter as usual. Fr. Herman Abcede, superior of the St.Anthony's Boys Village of Silang (Philippines) presides the mass in English. He speaks about the gospel passage on Martha and Mary inviting everyone to consider the identity and the role of us Rogationists as men of prayer and action. At the Hall  the second reading examination and voting of the draft of the first Commission regarding the charismatic identity of the Congregation start. Fr. Matteo Sanavio, secretary, presents the draft. Fathers Rampazzo, Martirizar and Lucas leave for the Philippines to attend the funeral of Fr. Giuseppe Aveni this coming Saturday. In the afternoon some Chapter members arrive at the city of Urbania to participate at the funeral of Mrs. Elena, mother of Fr. Amedeo Pascucci. See photos.
